This is the following artist statement from Ali Pica:

“Just Beachy” is a photography compilation that embodies the emotions and thoughts evoked from being at the shore. From childhood memories of riding ferris wheels, to adulthood, standing alone on a windy beach in the winter, “Just Beachy” is an exhibit of transformation of the shore and oneself over time. In this collection, my goal is to demonstrate intersections between architecture and nature, togetherness and isolation. Throughout the summer, we see boardwalks and beaches as fun places for people to gather, yet the winters are bereft of activity. I find it fascinating to observe these changes, specifically, how the bright colors of the boardwalks can appear muted and distorted as compared to summer days. In a sense, to appreciate the shore’s unique charm during the unlikeliest of times, the coldest days, can represent a sense of self-acceptance—to be alone and absorbing such majestic surroundings can be an amazing experience.
